Overview of Linux Operating System
What is Linux?
It is an Operating system, by using that, users/applications can communicate with hardware components.
It was developed/created in the 1960s.
With a lot of extensions and improvements to the base version, several flavours were introduced by organizations/companies (flavours like RedHat, Linux, Ubuntu, CentOS etc).
About Linux:-
Linux is a free and open-source operating system.
Linux operating system code is also available on the Internet that's why it is called as open source.
Anybody can take Linux OS code and can customize it according to their requirement.
Linux is a multiuser-based operating system.
Linux is a community-based operating system.
Linux OS is highly recommended for business.
Evolution of Linux:-
Microsoft released its first OS in 1981, which is "MS-DOS".
Microsoft windows os came into the market in 1985 with GUI.
In 1991, a student Linus Torvalds made some code changes to the operating system and released it into the market free of cost which is called a Linux Operating System.
Linus Torvalds used Minux operating system.
By taking the first letters from his name (LIN) and the last two letters from Minux (UX), he named it Linux.

As Linux is open source, multiple flavours are available with a lot of extensions and improvements.
